(<a title=\"1,5-Dimethylhexylamine (octodrine) in sports and weight loss supplements: Natural constituent or synthetic chemical?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0731708518301821\">1<\/a>) Originally, or at least medically, it&#8217;s used as a decongestant. In supplements, it may help improve performance and increase weight loss. But, you&#8217;re not likely to see &#8220;DMHA&#8221; on the label of your favorite pre workout or fat burner. It has a TON of different names but here&#8217;s a short list of the common ones used: (<a title=\"DMHA in Dietary Supplements\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/dietary-supplement-products-ingredients\/dmha-dietary-supplements\">2<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">1,5-Dimethylhexylamine<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">1,5-DMHA<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">2-amino-5-methylheptane<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">2-amino-6-methylheptane<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">2-aminoisoheptane<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">2-Heptylamine, 6-methyl-<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">2-Isooctyl amine<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">2-Metil-6-amino-eptano<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">6-Amino-2-methylheptane<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Amidrine<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Octodrine<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Vaporpac<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Background<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">This ingredient can come from nature or be made synthetically. Generally, companies are more likely to make it synthetically due to this being the cheaper method. But, it comes from the Juglans Regia tree. In products like (spoiler) <a title=\"Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals HydroxyElite\" href=\"https:\/\/www.samedaysupplements.com\/hydroxyelite-by-hi-tech-pharmaceuticals-90-caps.html\">Hydroxyelite<\/a>, this is labeled as Walnut Bark Extract. In April 2019, the US FDA sent out warning letters to manufacturers to remove DMHA from their products. This was due to companies not submitting a New Dietary Ingredient Notification (NDIN), which is required for all new dietary ingredients. Or if DMHA was an unsafe food additive. (<a title=\"FDA Acts on Dietary Supplements Containing DMHA and Phenibut\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/cfsan-constituent-updates\/fda-acts-dietary-supplements-containing-dmha-and-phenibut\">3<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">But here&#8217;s the thing-<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">DMHA isn&#8217;t new. It&#8217;s a constituent of walnuts, which has been around for long before any FDA Law. So this isn&#8217;t a strong enough case to ban the ingredient. But, what about it being &#8220;unsafe&#8221;?\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals, along with other companies, have been selling products with DMHA for 2(+) years now. With no serious issues from consumers when taken properly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">And let&#8217;s not forget it&#8217;s medical use as a decongestant, which has been instated in the 1950s. (<a title=\"Octodrine: New Questions and Challenges in Sport Supplements\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5836053\/\">4<\/a>) Therefore, we can&#8217;t really ban it for this reason either. And don&#8217;t worry if you&#8217;ve grown to love DMHA as much as we have, Hi-Tech has fought the FDA for it. We can&#8217;t guarantee it will or won&#8217;t. Generally, if this is a concern for you, we would advise you to stray away from products like this. Not just ones containing DMHA.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">But, for this matter, we have a statement from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><em>&#8220;Categorized as a stimulant under the World Anti-Doping Prohibited List, octodrine is prohibited in-competition. Because clearances times depend on many individual factors, USADA cannot advise athletes on when they should discontinue using a substance to ensure that it has completely \u201cwashed out\u201d from their body. As a result, some of our favorite products had massive delays in production. There were several factors that contributed to the delays:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Importing Delays<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Quality Assurances<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Weather Conditions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">For starters, importing DMHA for production in itself was held up due to cargo port delays (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/cargo-ships-new-york-california-four-week-supply-chain-crisis-2021-10\">7<\/a>). These delays pushed production expectations back 4 weeks, all on their own. Following importing DMHA comes quality checks. These are essential for assuring the ingredients are in their best form for production. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Unfortunately, DHMA is very sensitive to weather conditions. As a result of the delays to port, the raw ingredients were held in a humid climate for an extensive period and did not pass quality checks. <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">In October 2021, three small batches of DMHA failed quality inspections, pushing delays further. Another bigger batch was expected sometime in November. But it wasn&#8217;t\u00a0till December 13th, 2021,\u00a0 that we received an update from the manufacturers that production for popular DMHA products like Hydroxyelite and Lipodrene were starting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Finally, in December 2022, all the backordered DHMA fat burners and pre workouts were stocked and
