Protein can be a great gift for those looking to gain weight or for anyone who may not get enough protein in their diet.

Do you get enough protein in your diet? 

There’s actually a couple of easy ways to tell:

  1. Bone Health. Turns out your bones need more than calcium to be considered healthy- they also need enough protein. So if you’re prone to breaks and fractures, you may want to re-examine your protein intake.
  2. Hair & Nail Health. Protein is essential to the health of your hair and nail. If you’re diet is lacking in protein, you may notice your hair and nails looking more brittle or lackluster.
  3. Feeling Weak. Fatigue isn’t the first symptom of low-protein, it takes sometime of build up. But, if you’re protein content is on lower end, you may notice you feel tired more often than usual. 
  4. Colds. Are you sick often? Protein is one of the building blocks of antibodies, so if your diet lacks protein, you may fall ill more often than others.
Now let’s go over what to look for in a protein supplement!
    • Grams of Protein Per Serving VS Calories Per Serving:
      • This is an important factor of your protein purchase. It determines whether you’re getting a leaning, maintaining, or bulking protein. For a lean protein, you’re going to want to aim for products with a high amount of protein (around 20-25 grams) and low calories (around 150 calories or less). The higher protein content per serving, the more of lean protein it is.

Within the fitness-bodybuilding world, two terms are often tossed around and compared: BCAAs and EAAs. BCAAs consist of three amino acids: Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine. Leucine and Valine are important for muscle repair, while valine can also increase energy. Isoleucine is important for muscle metabolism and hemoglobin production.
